URPP Language and Space

Tabea Ihsane joined the URPP Language and Space in August 2016.

Research interests

Tabea Ihsane is a member of the research group SyNoDe (Systems of Nominal Determination in contact), which investigates different types of noun phrases, nominal determiners and pronouns (in particular indefinites, partitives and weak definites), with regard to their syntactic distribution and referential properties, possibly as potential results of language contact.

Her main expertise lies in the syntax and the syntax-semantics interface of nominal expressions, in a cross-linguistic perspective. Her research interests include partitivity (e.g. du/des, en in French), gender issues (semantic and grammatical gender), selection issues, the grammar of special registers such as diaries, and the History of English. In the past five years, she investigated several diachronic issues, in particular i) the loss of verb movement and adverb placement, and ii) the distribution of auxiliaries with respect to adverbs in Middle and Early Modern English, on two projects funded by the SNSF and directed by Eric Haeberli.
